Gallery Thirty-Six
July 19th 2024,
Gallery Thirtysix presented an exhibition dedicated to the art of Shibari, showcasing a stunning collection of large-scale sensual photographs by @aaronmcpolin. This was McPolin's first solo show in the U.S., featuring over twenty fine art nude images that explored taboo themes. The exhibition was displayed on the entire 36th floor of the Moxy building downtown, alongside the gallery's permanent collection of contemporary artists.
The opening event was a memorable evening, featuring masterful Shibari Kinbaku performances by @dk_blackfish and @leahmoth. During this event, I had the honor of performing a suspension alongside the talented Delilah. It was a powerful and intimate experience, where art and connection came to life in front of an engaged audience. The energy of the gallery, combined with Aaron McPolin’s striking photography, created an unforgettable atmosphere that highlighted the intricate beauty of Shibari as both art and performance.
In the two weeks leading up to the event, Delilah and I worked closely together to perfect our performance. We collaborated on rope techniques, carefully body-scanned our movements, and fine-tuned our flow to create a seamless, graceful display. This process allowed us to find a natural rhythm and build trust, ensuring that every tie and suspension felt both artistic and comfortable. Our goal was to showcase a performance that felt authentic and confident, ready to share with the public in a way that highlighted both the beauty and connection of Shibari.
Performing at this event marked an important milestone in my journey as a rope artist, where I was able to showcase my craft in such a vibrant and creative environment. Working with Aaron McPolin and Delilah brought the evening to another level of collaboration and artistic expression, making it a truly special moment in my career.
