Leviathan Goth Night: Vanity

September 14th 2024

At the Leviathan Goth Night, themed around Vanity, I embraced the evening’s mythology-inspired subtext. Drawing from the story of Narcissus and the idea of falling in love with one’s own reflection, the event invited attendees to embody their boldest, most unapologetically “extra” selves—loud, proud, quirky, and authentic. It was a night to reclaim space, reject the idea of “being too much,” and celebrate the satirical and sincere beauty of self-expression.

I took the stage with two self-suspension performances, weaving together the themes of self-admiration and entanglement in both a literal and metaphorical sense. Through the ropes, I explored the fine line between the beauty of self-love and the complexity of vanity in a world that often asks us to shrink ourselves.

After the performances, I had the honor of vending Shibari experiences, offering guests the opportunity to adorn themselves with decorative ties, take home a piece of the ropework as a keepsake, or experience a personalized suspension. Each session created an intimate, interactive moment of artistry and connection.

Later in the evening, I transitioned into a custom, handmade Suspiria-inspired gown to join the costume contest as a judge, soaking in the unapologetic creativity of the crowd. It was a night that perfectly blended vulnerability, satire, and bold self-expression—truly an unforgettable celebration of Vanity.
